ABOUT Ai WAKA
Oh WAKA
The founder of Ai WAKA was born in the Netherlands, with both parents originally from Suriname. From a young age, he was surrounded by knowledge of nature, culture, delicious food, and more thanks to his family and surroundings. At home, they always worked hard to visit their country of origin as often as possible. Flying to Suriname always felt like coming home, a return to basics.

Suriname has so much to offer, especially for its own people. Unfortunately, not everything the country has to offer is fully (consciously) embraced. At Ai WAKA, we are committed to increasing knowledge and engagement, both within current generations (young and old) and for future generations.

Ai Waka Culture contributes to the Surinamese Dream . For us, this means (re)building the country, because we believe that knowledge is the key to power.
Our foundation lies in fashion, where we respectfully interweave contemporary styles with elements from long-standing traditions. We also offer products that represent their country of origin – think items featuring the Surinamese coat of arms or flag.
Most of our products are handmade or finished. A lot of work goes into that: imagine that one item you'd love to have and multiply that by 80 or even 100. All made by one person, by hand!
But Chayden does this with love. And that's precisely where her strength lies.
Nanga lobi.
In addition to our products, we are committed to education and sharing honest history through our blogs. We see a future full of possibilities, love, and warmth that we can give back to this beautiful country. Now is the time to work together on the Surinamese Dream.
